Introducing week 3 - Building an online presence

From Maria Teresa, 29 Jan

Dear BAWers (we think that by the beginning of week 3 this general term may apply to all stakeholders).

My name’s is Maria Teresa Ciaffaroni from ancient Rome (Italy) and I’m going to be co-moderator for week 3 along with my colleague and friend Cora Chen from sophisticated San Francisco.

We are well in the middle of things now and we do hope that you are enjoying yourselves, as well as starting to make some sense and rhyme out of the many tools and interactions that have been going on in the group. In case you wish to have full details on both Cora and me, you can have a look at http://dafnegonzalez.com/baw-06/content/co-moderators.html#mariat- Both of us joined BAW last year and we liked it so much that when Daf and Tere, our official invaluable moderators, asked us to co-moderate a week in BAW06 we accepted it enthusiastically. We do hope we may be of help, as well as trying our hand at it.

What’s in the menu for week 3? Many yummy dishes, in the best BAW tradition. You will learn how to Build your web presence. An apparently ambitious goal but, believe us, utterly achievable. I happen to know that some of you have already got their own web pages and some have already tried blogs out . You will have plenty of opportunities to try more during this week, under the expert guide of Barbara Dieu and Graham Stanley. Both Barbara and Graham have a lot to teach anybody who’s interested in blogs. For further details see
http://dafnegonzalez.com/baw-06/content/chatsessions.html. We will meet them on Tuesday Jan. 31st., at 20:30 GMT at the Alado, a virtual environment that allows text chat, voice interaction and whiteboard facilities. You will get instructions on how to join the Alado in due time. Just in case you wish to know in advance, go to BAW website hint page and click on Alado. http://64.71.48.37/teresadeca/webheads/baw06/hintsbaw06.htm
Since we are dealing with blogs and web pages you may also have a look at some free web hosts (GeoCities, Tripod, Bravenet) and explore blogger hosts (Live Journal, Blogger, Edublogs, Bravenet, Tabulas, Xanga) . You will find tutorials for LiveJurnal and Bloggerin on BAW’s tutorial page http://dafnegonzalez.com/baw-06/content/tutorials.html
In addition to that both Cora and I have created our own blogs, which are available if you want to start experimenting.

Cora’s blog http://cora.edublogs.org/
Maria Teresa’s (MT) blog http://tciaffaroni.edublogs.org/
In my blog you will find additional readings on the topics we are covering during this week, in case you want to know more or need further details.
Of course, you can find a reading list for week 3 at http://dafnegonzalez.com/baw-06/content/readings.html#w3. You may post your reflections on readings on the new forum created by Daf http://pub41.bravenet.com/forum/3490181847, and comments on live sessions at BAW’s blog http://dafne.edublogs.org/

Last but not least you may get in touch with us whenever you please. We will try to be available as much as possible. Since Cora and I live in different continents we have different time zones, so you are bound to find one or the other of us on the spot.
